“I bought a three-bed Victorian terrace in a pretty rough state and Oakwood did the full renovation — rewire, re-plumb, new kitchen, two new bathrooms, the lot. What impressed me most was how they handled the original features. They found cornicing under the artex that I didn’t even know was there, and spent time restoring it rather than just skimming over it. The original hallway tiles were cracked and uneven but they lifted them, cleaned them, and re-laid them on a new screed. It’s those details that made the difference. Yes, it went three weeks over the original timeline, but David was upfront about the reasons (the damp in the rear addition was worse than expected) and the additional cost was reasonable.”

The party wall process with our neighbour was the thing we were dreading — she’d been difficult about a previous owner’s plans. Oakwood’s surveyor went round, had a cup of tea with her, explained everything, and she signed the consent within a fortnight. The conversion itself was well managed. The scaffolding went up on a Monday and by Friday the dormer frame was weathered in, so we didn’t have any anxious nights worrying about rain. The finished room is bigger than we expected and the en-suite is properly done — full-height tiling, walk-in shower, the works.”
